Absentee voting is very easy in North Dakota. Absentee ballots are available to anyone who:

is a qualified electors wishing to vote absentee prior to the date of the election.
is a  member of the armed forces of the United States;
is a member of the merchant marine;
is physically disabled.

To apply for an absentee ballot an applicant must apply for an absent voter's ballot on a application form furnished by the proper officer of the county, city, or school district which the applicant is an elector.

Qualified electors are no longer required to provide a reason for voting absentee in North Dakota.

Absentee ballots for the 2008 Primary Election are expected to be made available in April 2008. To obtain an Absent Voter's Ballot Application, you may choose one of the following methods:

download the Absent Voter's Ballot Application from this link, complete the application and e-mail to lfoss@nd.gov  OR fax to 701-462-3542 OR mail to McLean County Auditor, PO Box 1108, Washburn, ND  58577;
contact the Auditor's office at 701-462-8817 to have an application mailed to you;
mail your written request for an application to: McLean County Auditor, PO Box 1108, Washburn, ND  58577 and an application will be mailed to you.

The Auditor's office must have a completed application on file before we can issue an absentee ballot. If you have any questions about the absentee voting process or completing the application, please call the Auditor's office at 701-462-8817.
